More about Murcia - Costa Calida
Make a villa rental or holiday rental on the Costa Calida your home away from home in south east Spain.
The Murcia region offers a number of fascinating historical and architectural sights. The Mediterranean coast in this area, known as the Costa Calida, is known for its natural beauty, great climate and sandy beaches.
The most outstanding natural feature in the region is the Mar Menor, a 100-square-mile salt water lagoon blessed with calm, shallow water and a constant breeze. Here, guests of Murcia and luxury holiday rentals can enjoy a wide variety of water sports, including swimming, sailing, water skiing, windsurfing, canoeing and jet skiing. Mar Menor's beaches are popular with families due to the warm shallow water.
Along the coast, guests of luxury villas and holiday rentals will find resort towns, including Los Alcazares and Santiago de la Ribera, and quaint fishing villages such as Aguilas and Cabo de Palos.
The marine reserve of Islas Hormigas is known as one of Spain's best SCUBA diving sites. Protected parklands, such as Calblanque Natural Park and the San Pedro del Pinatar Salt Flats and Natural Park, give guests of luxury holiday rentals the opportunity to enjoy the unspoiled natural beauty of this area.
The Murcia region offers a number of outstanding golf courses, the best of course being Hacienda Del Alamo where our villa is situated. Others include those at the well known La Manga Club resort which is 30 minutes from Hacienda Del Alamo by car.
The regional capital city of Murcia has a long history shaped by a fusion of various cultures. Guests of Murcia villas and holiday rentals can visit the Palacio Episcopal, the Catedral de Santa Maria, built in the 14th through 16th centuries, the 16th century Monasterio de los Jeronimos, and several lovely churches. The archeological museum contains some interesting Arabic ceramics and paintings.
Cartagena, founded in 223 B.C. by the Carthaginians, was occupied by the Romans, Goths and Moors before the Christian Reconquest. Guests of Murcia holiday rentals can visit Roman and Byzantine ruins and several museums. Galeras and San Julian are the best-preserved of the city's four castles. Today Cartagena is Spain's main naval base and an important harbour.
